MAJOR SHIFT!

Something bigger than last week's battles has occurred over the last 12 months. A transformation occurred for Chad as a state and as a people; a break with the past. This is no longer the Chad of yesteryear when the Sudanese and Libyans placed their puppets in Ndjamena as if it were a vassal state. Chad now has a real national and professional army capable of defending her sovereignty. The government has evolved a national discourse that is unifying, substantial, mature. The president has made the connection between concrete national development and legitimacy to rule; the whole country has now become a building site for schools, hospitals and other facilities. Yes, it took Deby 18 years and a near death experience in 2008...but WE ARE THERE. Forget the militias, we're only moving forward from now on!
