Bartered for justice

Unimaginably difficult issue, so deeply embedded in Pashtun culture. How does a society evolve out of this
nightmarish approach to their womenfolk and does the presence of Western troops essentially attempting to "pacify"
this region help or hinder the process?

sad

I have read enough on women being abused or discriminated in Afghanistan, so I am not very surprised. What a pity that the Pakistani government has taken the backward step of legitimizing such inadmissible practices in the Swat valley by giving in to the Taliban.
