AFP - Elie Baup stepped down as coach of relegated French side Nantes on Monday after less than a year in the post.
Baup, the most experienced coach in the French championship, had suggested on Saturday following the confirmation of their relegation, despite a 2-1 win over Auxerre, that he was prepared to resign even with a year remaining on his contract.
"FC Nantes and Elie Baup have decided to go their separate ways," a statement from the club read.
Nantes, once one of the giants of French football, finished second from bottom of the table with just nine wins in 38 league matches.
