The French, ever- ready for a strike, are blockading supermarket distributors or wholesale outlets.
Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace
The front page of this Alsace newspaper shows a tractor blockade near Strasbourg’s airport.
7,000 farmers mounted their tractors yesterday evening and blocked some 40 distribution stations across the country.
“We’re being strangled,” says one farmer in the nationwidel daily Aujourd’hui en France.
In May, it cost him 300 euros to produce 1000 litres of milk for which he earned 215 euros…
Yet milk prices in the rest of Europe are much lower. Unions are saying pay us a price we can live on. Distributors are arguing the prices are much lower elsewhere.
The Courjault Affair – a case gripping France
This is the trial of Véronique Courjault
The trial of Véronique Courjault, accused of murdering three of her infant children, is ongoing.
Yesterday she told the court how she had stopped taking the contraceptive pill believing she would not fall pregnant.
Asked why she hadn’t thought of having an abortion instead of killing the children at birth. “To have an abortion, you have to be pregnant. This is not what I felt. I didn’t even think about it.”
Rachida Dati slammed by French judges
Rachida Dati was the first French senior minister of north African origin.
The Judges Union, USM is highly critical of her. Apart from her undiplomatic approach to managing the Ministry and its reforms, there are other criticisms made by the judges. Every time there was a new incident in the news on security or justice issues, they say there was a new law to counteract it. From their point of view, a whole host of useless laws were passed simply as a public relations exercise.
Dati has now been elected to the European Parliament, esentially because Sarkozy wanted to find a way of taking her out of government. In any case, poor Ms. Dati has made a lot of enemies as she leaves her offices at Place Vendôme.
