AFP - The Honduran Congress Sunday named speaker Roberto Micheletti as the country's new interim president following the ousting and expulsion of Manuel Zelaya.
The Congress voted unanimously to remove Zelaya from office for "apparent misconduct" and for "repeated violations of the constitution and the law and disregard of orders and judgments of the institutions."
In his place they appointed Micheletti as the new leader to serve out the rest of the constitutional term of office "for a term that ends on January 27, 2010," Congress said in a statement.
New general elections are planned in Honduras on November 29.
