Reuters -  A shooting occurred near the Capitol, home of the U.S. Congress in Washington, and police closed a road adjacent to the Senate side of the complex, Capitol Police said on Wednesday. Capitol police say one suspect was killed.

At least one person was taken to the hospital after the shooting, according to local news reports.

The incident, which was not on the grounds of the Capitol, did not disrupt Congress’s business.

Entrances to the Capitol building were temporarily locked on its North side but they were later reopened.

An NBC local news station reported that the shooting might have stemmed from a hit-and-run incident involving a vehicle and that an enforcement officer might have been involved.
