Soldiers probably involved in kidnapping, says intelligence chief
In an exclusive interview granted to FRANCE 24, Somali intelligence chief General Mohamed Sheikh Hassan (pictured) said that members of the Somali military were probably involved with last week's kidnapping of two French agents.
FRANCE 24: Was the Somali government involved in the operation?
Mohamed Sheikh Hassan: Not the government itself... But soldiers, for instance, helped the kidnappers in one way or another. Of course kidnappings or acts of terrorism occur everywhere in the world. But according to our investigation, it seems that the car used to help the kidnappers was provided by the Darawish group, who work for the military.
F24: Do you have any information about the two French men?
MSH: One of the two hostages is still in Mogadishu, and the other in a southern province, although we're unsure where. The information we received is contradictory, and the group moves around a lot, constantly changing houses and villages. These terrorism groups have the means to make it very difficult for us to locate the hostages.
