REUTERS - Serbia shocked world champions Spain 66-57 in their opening EuroBasket Group C match on Monday.

Nenad Krstic led Serbia with 17 points as his team outplayed their opponents, who were runners-up to Russia in the last Eurobasket in 2007.

"It's not the start we wanted but (the good thing is) we can't play worse," Spain's Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol, who pointed to his team's poor shooting as the main reason for the defeat, told La Sexta television.

"We can't live on outside shots ... we got into a hole we couldn't get out of."

Eurobasket is taking place in various cities across Poland until Sept. 20.
