US restricts tyre imports from China

Text by NEWS WIRES

Latest update : 2009-09-12

US President Barack Obama has announced three years of restrictions on tyre imports from China, due to Chinese tyres making rapid gains in American market share.

Reuters - President Barack Obama has decided to restrict tire imports from China for three years in response to a petition filed earlier this year by the U.S.  Steelworkers Union, the White House said on Friday.

“The president decided to remedy the clear disruption to the U.S. tire industry based on the facts and the law in this case,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement.
