This kind of politics advocates that any valid metric by which the efficacy of politics may be judged, must be eliminated from the minds of the polity. GDP is not directly proportional to happiness, but people get a really uneasy feeling when they can see for themselves the extent of the economic turbulence, yet be told this is not so by a president who is, in effect, a multi-millionaire, in consort with a plethora of well-heeled experts with an agenda to pursue, at the expense of the polity. This is not limited to France, of course, but it would be a refreshing change for Monsieur le President to acquaint himself with reality.
