I don't get it.

Why would Rober, a journalist, hand the disc off to EADS government contractor employee, Lahoud?

Shouldn't he, Rober, have just made the story and its players public knowledge right away?

De Villepin has been at the helm of France's affairs for two years as PM, not to mention his long governmental career that span some three decades...So, he knows the intricacies of the french political machine. he 's brilliantly led France's diplomacy, especially at the height of US pressure for the war in Iraq. he adamantly refused to follow suit...He is one of the most outspoken and talented politicians in France--that's my opinion...but, if it turns out that he made the mistakes he is accused of under his leadership, he's accountable for them. I don't see it as a "smear trial", but just as an "enlightening" moment in French politics since people are rightfully wondering who did what, when, and why? This "blockbuster trial" will, for sure, be used as a case study for students in politcal science and serve political punditry for a long, long time
