The Serbs have a right to not allow this parade to happen. It's their country. If the purpose of this pride event is to have equal human rights for all, then the pride organizers need to be respectful of pro-family attitudes and not force themselves in a countyr where family and marriage between a man and woman are held in the highest regard. Why is it that the gay population feels they have to impose their view of how to live on those who clearly do not want a part of it? If they want to be gay-fine- stay among your own--don't force yourselves on others who don't want to be like you.
Violence is on the rise in Belgrade, mostly due to harsh economic reality. Extremists and hooligans are predominately young people born after 90's when misery started in former Yugoslavia. Today they picked on guys and tomorrow they will pick on somebody else. They are gangrenous parts of any society that many well developed countries have difficulties to deal with as well.
As far as the parade, it was wise idea to cancel the parade since the city centre would have been demolished and perhaps some people hurt.
I don't see the parade cancellation as a proof of capitulation but as an act of pragmatism on both sides: Government and parade organizers since no one wanted to take responsibility.
No one is calling this by what it is. The Pride was not canceled, it was not called off - it was de facto (if not de jure) BANNED! The government avoided saying that the assembly was banned because they were trying to avoid the political repercussions that would stem from such blatant disregard for basic human rights. They manipulated the public and the press into believing that a meeting held at the same remote location to which Milošević sent all the opposition protests, would be protected, but the one in the middle of the capital would not. They could do everything to protect people in the middle of a forest, but NOT in the city? Get real people and open your eyes. This is a wolf in a sheep skin. The Pride was BANNED, not canceled.

Freedom Vs Extremism
It clearly shows that Serbia has more extremists than gays.
More opression than progression.
A small loss to freedom, a great lead for extremists.
