AFP - World champions Spain will tackle Serbia in the European championship final on Sunday looking to win a first continental title having lost six finals in a miserable run stretching back to 1935.

Spain beat Greece 82-64 in Saturday's semi-final while Serbia needed overtime to edge Slovenia 96-92.

The Spanish side are desperate for victory having slumped to Russia in the 2007 final in Madrid, a tournament they were widely expected to win.

But Serbia will be buoyed by having defeated Spain, who had been slowed by injuries to star players Pau Gasol and Rudy Fernandez, 66-57 in the first round here.

"We have recuperated physically. I have 12 players who are available and now we can write history," said Spain coach Sergio Scariolo.

Gasol was in impressive form on Saturday scoring 18 points in a 21-minute spell.

Serbia had a much tougher time reaching the final having to fight back from an 11-point deficit in the second period.
