International Press Review
In today's international press review, we take a look at the Greek papers which are dissecting Sunday's general election as well as the Japanese press after the tragic death of a former Finance Minister.
You can see the international press review with James Creedon every weekday morning at 9.10am, Paris time.
The Greek elections are – in an unexpected shock – making the front of… the Greek papers! The left-leaning Ta Nea daily is clearly pleased with the landslide victory of the Socialist Party. “Historic Victory for George,” reads the headline, referring to Socialist leader Geroge Papandreou.
In the English edition of right-leaning daily Kathimerini, the editorial cautions the outgoing conservative New Democratic Party, saying they should spend too long ‘navel-gazing’ in opposition. They must shape up because the country needs a strong centre-right party, a party that will soon have to fight its way to power, the paper concludes.
