To Ivo, I can see why Belgium seems to be a haven of child abuse. polanski's past does not excuse or give him rights to abuse, drug and sodomise a 13 year old girl. I find it bizarre that some people consider it normal for a 45 year old man to be sexually attracted to 13 year olds?
I sincerely hope Roman Polanski extradition is blocked and he is set free. American "justice" is brutal, bigoted and vindictive, and no human should suffer such barbaric imitation of justice. No to mention he is an extraordinary artist himself who contributed immensely to the society. Even his back then victim, Samantha Geimer, called repeatedly the charges against him to get dropped.
Perhaps he was given a raw deal. We should retry him. This time rule out any plea bargaining. Try him for giving drugs and alcohol to a minor , kidnapping , rape of a minor , unlawful flight to avoid prosecution , assault on a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and being stupid. We should turn back the clock to allow him to have enough time left in his life to be in jail for as long as he should be. We should punish France by multiplying him by a thousand and allowing them to do as he pleases with whom ever's daughter he wants for a few decades. Wait he was already doing that.
Unfortunately last years Americans show that "multi-cultural population" = "non-cultural population".
They are getting very aggresive, non tolerant, abusive. It is very hard to read blog messages they posting or
media manipulate.
Mr. Johnston (TX): are you implying that only Christians find it atrocious that a grown man gives champagne, drugs, rapes & sodomizes (because she's not on the pill) a 13 year old girl, that other religions would look the other way? What religion are you? WOW!! I thought Islam was even tighter on this sort of thing than Christianity
Europeans are probably used to having one set of laws for the affluent "entitled" people and another for everyone else but when the War of Independence was fought & won we Americans dispensed with that rubbish. Yes, he has had tragedies in his life but so have other people & they haven't resorted to physically overpowering a 13 year old CHILD & RAPING her (it was rape--read the grand jury transcripts). He knew she was 13--he asked her mother's permission prior to his "shoot" & he admitted under oath that he knew her age. This may deserve clemency where you are, but even the Swiss court just acknowledged that he can't be trusted not to run again and, in essence, thumb his nose at the same system that dispelled justice to the murderers of his wife & child.

The person who commented on this blog by saying "shame to those" who aided Roman Polanski is part of a vindictive brain washed stone throwing Christianity that commands no respect. He paid for his sin with ostracism and the death of his family in the international spotlight. But, small minds are at work here.
Vain glorious law enforcement imposing pseudo Christianity hypocrisy. Perhaps the guillotine or public hangings can appease the malicious cowards. Even the victim from 1977 wants this to go away.
Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13 year old child, admittted his crime in court and fled to France before sentencing. I guess the French feel differently about child rape than the rest of the civilized world. These are the facts. Shame on all who participated in his escape and harboured or supported this criminal. He should be held responsible for his actions .... even after 30 years. There should be no safe harbour for child rapists.
Roman Polansky has gone through more pain than any one person deserves and I am sure that pain still faces him "decades later" - after the brutal murder of his wife and unborn child in 1969, I am positive that in the late 1970's he was still suffering and probably not responsible for his actions - even the victim in this case has forgiven him and wants the legal system to forgive him.

So called Polanski "crime" is so uncertain that I feel personally abused by Swiss Justice.
