Anger over US aid package in Pakistan
In this edition: The US aid plan for Pakistan creates debate in the local blogosphere; the web mobilised for World Food Day; and the video of three cats fighting over a steak.
PAKISTAN : US AID PLAN
Outraged by the conditions imposed by US Congress for the granting of seven billion 500 million dollars, Pakistani net users are joining the army to express their disagreement. They are denouncing interference in the county’s interior affairs.
According to this net user, the conditions imposed by the US, threaten the fragile balance between civilians and the military. If a control of power over the military were established, the net user feels that would lead to a collapse of the current Government whose leaders would then be left fearing for their lives.

And many net users are targeting the US presence in the country. According to its author, this video supposedly shows the secret camp of a private American militia on the outskirts of Islamabad. A militia whose members are thought to spy on the Pakistani military.
Meanwhile the army’s Youtube channel glorifies its soldiers. This video pays tribute to soldiers who died in combat, which it describes as martyrs.
At a time when a wave of attacks intensifies in the country, this blogger describes a meeting led by thirty five Pakistani organisations to search for peace. The chosen proposals include redefining relations with neighbouring countries and the US. Relations which are to be based on non-interference…
WORLD FOOD DAY
Over a billion humans suffer from hunger around the world. This is the message of a video broadcast online of the occasion of World Food day taking place this Friday. On the web, many initiatives are mobilising http://www.fao.org/getinvolved/worldfoodday/en/ " target="_blank">net users in the face of one of the 21st century’s greatest challenges.
On the World Food Programme site, this cartoon recalls that ten children die every sixty seconds, during which time145 million emails are sent and nearly three million videos are viewed on Youtube.
Net users are therefore urged to act at a time when the financial downturn is aggravating the food crisis. It calls for a collective increase in awareness.
The NGO, Action against hunger has launched this online petition to call on Al Gore to make a documentary about malnutrition. The goal being to hit home as he managed to do with climate change thanks to his film, ‘An inconvenient truth’.
This game aimed at children allows players to step into the shoes of a humanitarian worker. The goal being to establish a food programme in a fictitious country to understand the realities faced on the ground.
Finally, this online quiz allows players to test their knowledge in foreign languages. And for every correct answer, 10 grains of rice will be donated to the world food programme to fight against hunger around the world.
THREDUP.COM
Wondering what to do with your old clothes? This US site offers a solution: a peer to peer system allowing users to exchange unwanted garments with other net users. You just need to sign up, create a virtual dressing room and make preferences in terms of size, brand and style. An algorithm then sends users and email to tell them where to send their old clothes.
GUITAR LESSONS
Learning to play a musical instrument is about learning with your ears and also with your eyes. And Heitor Castro is fully aware of this. This Brazilian guitarist, who graduated from the prestigious Guitar Institute of Technology, in California, wished to share his knowledge online. Rock, Country and bossa nova: with over 150 videos posted on Youtube, he now has hundreds of students around the world.
LA VIDÉO DU JOUR
What happens when there is only one steak for three cats? Well two fight over the succulent morsel and maintain their position, while the third, ideally positioned, takes advantage of the situation and tucks in undisturbed.
