French Press Review: "Terror in Kabul"

In today’s French press review, we look at Taliban attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Only on Wednesday, around a hundred people were killed in Peshawar, and several UN members lost their lives in Kabul.
 
The newspaper focuses on the uncertain future of the region, just a few days away from the presidential election in Afghanistan.
 
Still in Afghanistan, Le Parisien talks about the case of nine French soldiers who died last year.
 
They were ambushed by Taliban insurgents and according to the victims’ families, their deaths could have been avoided.
 
In Germany, the centre right newspaper Le Figaro focuses on Angela Merkel’s re-election as the German Chancellor.
 
We also take a peak at fans’ reactions to Michael Jackson’s film “This is it”.
 
And finally we look at the sports newspaper L’Equipe, paying a tribute to the famous French boxer, Marcel Cerdan.

The right-leaning paper says that although on paper everything is against him, he will still win the election. The Communist paper L’Humanité says Sarkozy is pandering to potential voters from the far-right.

Le Figaro applauds the President and his values, while left-leaning Libération calls him "reactionary". Meanwhile, a lot of the French press focuses on the controversy sparked by French car-maker Renault which has decided to build a factory in Morocco.
