9/11 plotter's passport found in South Waziristan

In today's international press review, we look at Pakistani authorities who have found the passport of a man linked to the 9/11 attacks.

IN THE PAPERS

The Pakistani newspaper The Nation reports on a military operation against insurgents in South Waziristan, a Taliban stronghold.

Authorities found the passport of Said Bahaji, believed to be one of plotters of the 9/11 attacks.

The British daily The Independent also reports on the story, giving more details about the man.

He is a half German, half Moroccan electronics expert, and is thought to be a key member of the Hamburg Cell, which laid the groundwork for  the 9/11 attacks.

In European news, the International Herald Tribune and the Guardian speculate about the EU leadership. The job has not yet been created, but the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair could be a potential candidate. The Daily Mail claims his hopes are fading.

And finally in Italy, Libération looks back at the “transsexual scandal” that forced a politician to step down a few days ago.

FRENCH PAPERS, Mon. 13/02/12. According to Le Figaro, Nicolas Sarkozy will announce he’s running for a second term between now and the end of the week. The right-leaning paper says that although on paper everything is against him, he will still win the election. The Communist paper L’Humanité says Sarkozy is pandering to potential voters from the far-right.
