In today’s international press review, we talk about Abdullah Abdullah pulling out of the presidential election.

IN THE PAPERS

The story has made the front page of the independent Afghan newspaper, the Daily Outlook.
 
It describes Abdullah Abdullah’s decision to pull out of the Presidential election  as irrational and irresponsible.
 
It says it’s a serious blow to democracy, less than a week before the vote.
 
The British daily The Guardian also reports on this story.
 
It talks about the West’s reaction, saying it was “ridiculous” for US officials to say that the election process “remained credible”.
 
We also look at the arrest of an Israeli settler, suspected of carrying out a series of deadly attacks over the past twelve years.
 
Inmates in the United States meanwhile, are offered an usual activity: rodeo. USA Today says a rodeo can generate up to $450,000 a day.
 
And finally we go to China, where the winter has kicked in early this year.

'Sarkozy: a candidate this week'

FRENCH PAPERS, Mon. 13/02/12. According to Le Figaro, Nicolas Sarkozy will announce he’s running for a second term between now and the end of the week. The right-leaning paper says that although on paper everything is against him, he will still win the election. The Communist paper L’Humanité says Sarkozy is pandering to potential voters from the far-right.
