"The fall of the Berlin wall"

In today’s French press review, we look at the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall.

We take a peak at this week-end’s edition of La Croix. The Christian newspaper talks about old secret files from East Germany.

At the time, the communist regime had a Ministry of State Security. It was 8 hectares large, with 49 buildings, and 200,000 members of staff and essentially spying. The Ministry was also composed of prison cells, secret files and bugging devices.

Today, the information is available to anyone mentioned in those secret files.

Meanwhile, Le Figaro interviewed the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. She was 35 years old when the wall came down, and she talks about her childhood memories.

In France, Nicolas Sarkozy is making the headlines of many newspapers, including Les Echos, l’Humanité and Libération. The French President is half way through his mandate.

And finally, Aujourd’hui en France talks about the legality of a website, where people can blow the whistle on their colleagues.
