The world's press reflects on momentous events in Germany 20 years ago, asking what the fall of the Berlin wall means today.

German paper Der Tagespeil reflects on November 9, 1989 which it calls “The day the world watched Berlin.” The paper has an interview with Gunther Schabowski, the former GDR official whose comments sent hopeful easterners flocking to the Berlin wall.

The Berliner Morgenpost celebrates with a re-print of its own front cover from the day after the fall of the wall.
 
The Hamburger Morgenpost remembers an influx of excited East Germans on the city’s streets twenty years ago.
 
The Moscow Times claims that the switch to capitalism in the former eastern bloc is facing a serious test, with many people nostalgic for the communist past.
 
The International Herald Tribune says an intellectual war is underway, to determine who is really responsible for the historical legacy of 1989.
 
Meanwhile, in France, Catholic La Croix examines two peoples still very much divided…in North and South Korea.
