REUTERS - Three players from Algeria’s national football team were slightly hurt on Thursday when youths stoned their bus as they arrived in Cairo for a World Cup qualifier against Egypt, Algerian state radio reported.

Algeria’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement expressing its “consternation” at the attack, which came two days before the match to decide which of the two teams will take part in the World Cup finals in South Africa next year.

A reporter for Algerian state radio said that about 200 young people appeared just as the bus arrived at the team hotel and launched a hail of stones at the vehicle, smashing the several windows.

“It was a very regrettable incident,” Hachemi Djiar, Algeria’s minister for youth and Sport told state radio by telephone from the Egyptian capital.

“On the way from the airport the bus was attacked by a group of youths who were throwing stones,” he said.

There was no immediate comment available from Egyptian officials. The Algerian sports minister said officials with FIFA, world football’s governing body, were aware of the incident and were meeting to decide what action to take.

The qualifying match has stirred passions in both Egypt and Algeria. If Algeria qualify, it will be the first time they have gone to the finals since 1986.

Failure to qualify would be a huge disappointment for Egypt, which is the holder of the African Cup of Nations trophy.

The Secretary-General of Algeria’s Foreign Ministry, Madjid Bouguerra, had a meeting in his office with the Egyptian ambassador soon after the incident.

“He (Bouguerra) expressed the consternation of the Algerian authorities over this incident,” the ministry said in its statement, which was reported by Algeria’s official APS news agency.

“He asked him, insistently, that the Egyptian authorities take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the whole Algerian delegation as well as Algerian supporters who have travelled to Cairo to attend the match.”

The truth about this subject

The truth is that the bus did not hit the Algerian in Cairo, but tried to fabricate played Algeria and the Guide on the glass so that occurred outside the bus and we have many of the videos which explain this

i love it

it just a fotball game i am algerian i have no resin to hate egypt but i know that egypt stoned algerian player bad be a shamed for your self egypt 123 viva l'algeria

this is not fair the

this is not fair the alegerian players are layers and nothing like that happend you know that the only arabic people welcome with any one come to egypt nobody stay at egypt and when you ask him what is is your openion about egypt and egyptian they will say we well never polit or kindly peiople like egypthians and egypt is the only country all over the world you will feel safe

Reply to liars liars. get over it

I bet you are one of the Egyptian median who started all this or an illiterate stupid person blinded by your media.
If you think the SHOUROUK is bad your media is worse.
It’s all began with insults against our country by your media to incite hatred between two countries who are supposed to be brothers. Saying things that shouldn’t be said as this was just a football game. I wouldn't mind if it was critics about football.
We welcomed your players with flowers in Algeria. You welcomed us with stones and rocks injuring, scaring and chocking our players and fans. No security for the players and fans. The whole word saw and condemns what happened in Egypt. Except you Egyptians.
The world media would’ve said something if there was serious fights, injuries or attacks on your players etc… in Sudan. Like they have said about what happened in Egypt and what happened with Ireland/France game.
I condemn the violence in Algeria against Egyptians or their property, but before you speak about international duties in Algeria. Tell me first about your international duties to protect Algerians fans and players in Egypt? No of course nothing happened in Egypt, the whole world is hallucinating.
What happened in France we should leave it to French government to decide and judge not you? However there is evidence that the police targeted the happy fans celebrating for nothing, which escalated the situation. It was witnessed by a French Moroccan student in Paris.
In Sudan there were small clashes between the two supporters. This is a football game like you would expect it every where in the world, large crowds of supporters chanting and supporting their teams. Because the Algerians overwhelmed and inundated the Egyptians and you felt small in Sudan you are making it as if it was a war.
The thousands fans flown from Algeria were just fans very happy to support and stand by their team.
You have criticised the Sudanese security why? WOW you have sent Rambo and commandos to save your fans. What are you talking about? That is an insult to the Sudanese security and people. They have done a terrific job and it is not easy to organise a big game at that scale in the last minutes but they managed to do it. Nothing serious happened and I say WELDONE TO THE PEOPLE, SECURITY AND GOVERNMENT IN SUDAN AND THANK YOU. You are arrogant and you think you are above all Arab countries.
Algerians bought all the knives in Sudan what a lot of non sense. No Egyptian was stabbed?? Let me tell you that most Algerians left Algeria in a hurry and landed in Sudan with small monies or no money at all to buy food let alone buying knives at $20 or $50. Thanks to our brothers in Sudan who helped with food and shelter.
You are asking for severance of Egyptian/ Algerians relations. You are taking this to the extreme, I bet that you are one of the Egyptian media who initially started all this. You just want the division between the two countries for an unknown reason/interest; instead you should be calling for peace. It was just a football game get over it. If you manage to achieve your goal with your campaign, believe me we wouldn’t loose asleep over it. It like loosing one hair from our heads we wouldn’t even notice it. One two Three VIVA L’ALGERIE

LIARS LIARS

TO ALL WESTERN MEDIA

On behalf of the Egyptian public, we write to communicate the reasons for our dismay of the Algerian fans' actions and the reasons for our demonstrations calling for expulsion of the Algerian Ambassador out of Egypt.

We write to explain the reasons why our government has called our Egyptian Ambassador in Algeria back to Cairo for consultation.

We are concerned some of the information you communicate to your audience is not an accurate representation of our motives or behaviour, and we hope through this message that you will be able to represent our voice and motivations better.

The Egyptian public is angry and dismayed with the Algerian Newspaper Al Shorouq's communication of lies to the Algerian people and the false claims that some 17 Algerians were killed in Cairo following the last football game.

We are deeply concerned and sorry that the Algerian Ambassador in Cairo failed to conduct an immediate press conference to deny such accusations, and has deliberately gone silent for 3 days.

We believe this failure was a deliberate act, a plot designed to destroy Egyptian/Algerian relations.

We are dismayed that Algeria sent thousands of its fans and organized militias to Sudan, to terrorize the Egyptian fans with all sorts of knives, daggers, blades, glass bottles and stones. These militias were carried on board of Algerian military air crafts in an organized air bridge between Algeria and Sudan.

The price of a common knife in Sudan went up from 10 local pounds to 50 after the Algerian demand. It is reported there were no more knives in the market after the Algerians bought them all.

We have witnessed live on air for hours the screams of the Egyptian football supporters in Sudan calling for protection after they escaped from the Algerian terrorists to hide in Sudanese homes.

We watched in horror and prayed for our fellow citizens to come back safely, after Egypt had to send its own commandos to secure them and after the intervention of both the Egyptian and Sudanese Presidents personally.

We are shocked with the escalated wave of hatred in Algeria itself and organized terror campaigns against the Egyptian citizens there. The destruction of Egyptian properties and business premises, within a medium of lack of state protection is unacceptable.

The refusal of the Algerian government to give permisson for more Egyptian air crafts to land in Algeria to bring our Egyptian citizens there back to Cairo, or even allow larger air crafts within the same schedule, is only an indicator that the state is part of this organized plot meant to lead to the break down of Egyptian/ Algerian relations.

The Algerian government is failing to recognize its international duties and provide protection to Egyptian citizens and businesses there.

Moreover, the escalated wave of Algerian violence has spread to the different countries in Europe. There have been many acts of Algerian terrorism and violence against Egyptian nationals residing in Europe.

It is obvious this is an organized movement of violence and terrorism targeted against Egyptian citizens, and is NOT a simple reaction of football fans related to a mere game.

For all these reasons, We, the Egyptian public are voicing our deepest concerns, dismay, and anger over all these actions and call for the immediate expulsion of the Algerian Ambassador in Egypt, and severance of Egyptian /Algerian relations.

We do not accept such violence, and do not wish to react in the same manner.. so our only alternative is to call for the temporary severance of relations between both countries, and we ask all European governments to assume their responsibility in protecting our citizens there.

here is videos for the Algerians during the match:

Algeria

i think they are not part of african football and even France24 will agree with me, there is a week in Africa and a week in maghreb, right, so i wonder why they are called africans and they must play saudi arabia, lebannon and kuwait as well as yemen i think its only fair to them. thats my opinion and im not being a racist but i dont see any connection with africa.

Show it all

Why is this being reported and not the egyptians in Khartoom?!! Show both sides of the coin, what happened with Algeria and Egypt should be a disgrace on both ends.

Sarkozy for Pres. of USA

Sarkozy is providing leadership, you French should follow.

Why

Why arabs and muslims always fall apart ? Why are they behaving badly ? If it is not religion, they always got excuses, and then accuse other nations of racism (or discriminating) against them... They do all like for revenge... Is it a revenge against the world ? We will never find out...

they are all

they are all muslims...shame...shame..

soccer holligans

It is rather sad that Algerian players should be stoned in a foreign country. Egyptian authorities should take all measure to endure such an ugly incidence does not happen again.

Dissapointing

this is unhuman for fellow africans to treat your fellow friend in such amanner over football. Which expression are we going to say if the Aigerians loss. Egpty what is your problem

Egypt should be disqualified from world cup

Egyptian authorities failed to protect the Algerian football team. As the host, it was their resposibility to take all precautionary measures, given the history between these 2 countries. Egypt has violated the sportmanship conduct and failed in their duties as host. They should therefore be automatically disqualified from the World Cup.
