The recent talks in Paris between President Sarkozy and Benjamin Nethanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel took place in an atmosphere of diplomatic tension. Sarkozy supported Gordon Brown’s call for an independent war crimes inquiry into the Gaza War. The visit by French Foreign Minister Kouchner was delayed due to the tense atmosphere.

Where does France stand? And is the French stance helping or hindering the moves towards a relaunch of the peace process?
