World Cup Qualifiers: "Ireland is ready to fight back"
In today’s French press review, we look at the press’ reaction to France’s victory against Ireland in the World Cup Qualifiers over the week-end.
Ségolène Royal has made a few headlines this morning, in both France Soir and Libération. The latter talks about a “Royal mess”.
She was Nicolas Sarkozy’s main rival in the Presidential race, and according to the paper she “has lost it”
Royal came uninvited to a meeting in Dijon, eastern France, where the socialist, centre and green parties met.
Her presence showed further “disunity” within the Socialist Party, says the left-wing newspaper.
Another hot topic, is football. France won 1-0 against Ireland in the world cup qualifiers.
The second leg of the game will take place on Wednesday, in Paris. L’ Equipe says “Ireland is hot” and is expected to fight back.
Meanwhile, l’Humanité reports on Afghanistan as the Senate is expected to debate on France’s military presence in Afghanistan later today.
In other news, a huge marketing operation ended in a fist fight in the streets of Paris. Libération talks about a company who promised to hand out 40,000 Euros but failed to deliver this week-end. This resulted in a “mini-riot” says the paper.
And finally, one of the most beautiful properties in Europe is up for grabs: a castle worth 31 million euros.
