Football: only a game? (part2)

With the controversy over France beating Ireland after a Thierry Henry handball, with the violence that surrounded the Algeria – Egypt game, France 24 is asking has football taken on a significance far beyond sport?

Does the behaviour of players inflame the issue?
Or do outside forces come into play exploiting football for nefarious aims?
