Yet another mine tragedy in China. On Saturday morning a gas explosion in a coal mine in the north east of the country, killed at least eighty seven people. According to official statistics, over 3,000 miners have perished in accidents of this type in 2008. A problem which is mobilising the web.

Accidents which nevertheless remain very frequent, with nearly 2,000 people having died in Chinese mines this year alone. This game was created as part of a minor training programme. It teaches workers what to do in the case of a firedamp explosion.

Sony is about to release its cartoon, ‘Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs’ on the Web, prior to releasing the DVD. The feature length film, which tackles junk food, will be available on TVs fitted with an internet connection. An initiative aiming to counter the drop in profits generated by the sale of the DVD and to find new distribution channels.

VIDEO OF THE DAY

While the film 2012 is bringing in the crowds at the cinema, with its apocalyptic images and celestial beings raining down, a real meteorite illuminated the skies over Salt Lake City in the US last week. An event which left no-one injured but which was filmed by several video surveillance cameras around the city. The resulting images are simply astonishing.
