Blackwater under spotlight for secret raids with CIA

INTERNATIONAL PRESS REVIEW: The CIA enlisted private security firm Blackwater to conduct clandestine raids on an almost nightly basis in Iraq during the height of the war, according to the New York Times

The Private security firm Blackwater is most notorious for its heavy handed tactics in Iraq and a lack of oversight. Most notably, in September 2007. Blackwater guards shot and killed 17 Iraqi civilians in Nisour Square, Baghdad. Today, the New York Times reveals that Blackwater were even more involved in suspect activities in Iraq than previously though.


According to former employees of the company, almost night raids took place in Iraq on suspected insurgents, this during the height of the war.
The security company also reportedly helped on some CIA flights transporting detainees.

Several former employees say the operations were so frequent that the lines supposedly dividing the CIA, the military and Blackwater became blurred.

“It became a very brotherly relationship,” said one former top CIA officer. “There was a feeling that Blackwater eventually became an extension of the agency.”
