Conspiracy theory in Italy claims Berlusconi attack was faked

FRENCH PRESS REVIEW: A YouTube video circulating online claims that the recent attack on Silvio Berlusconi was faked in order to give the Italian Prime Minister a boost in the polls.

By James CREEDON

Silvio Berlusconi has gained 7 points in polls in the past month largely down to a wave of sympathy that followed a violent assault on the Italian premier two weeks ago. Libération reports on a conspiracy theory surrounding the event. Could it be that the attack was faked in order to give Berlusconi a boost? A YouTube video makes this assertion, claiming that the blood on his face was not real. “Turn off the television and turn on your brains,” it says. Gianni Vattimo, an Italian MEP and philosopher is also skeptical, saying he believes the attacker was a Mafioso ordered in by the Prime Minister.
