A new breed of terrorists

Today in the French papers: "Libération" takes a look at a new kind of terrorist. Meanwhile in France, January sales officially don't start until Wednesday, but some stores have opened their doors early.

The paper “Liberation” looks at terrorists and alleged terrorists, saying they are acting more and more on their own.
Why is this important?
For 2 reasons: One, if they no longer act as a group or network, who do fight?
Second, the article says it that the Al Qaeda network is in some kind of crisis.

This is the first time, the article says, that Al Qaeda networks are claiming responsibility for failed attacks. Like the alleged terrorist that tried to blow up a plane of the way to the US on Christmas Eve.

These people are no longer receiving orders, but they are influenced by Islamist networks all over the world, driving them to commit these acts.

The newspaper “La Croix” reports that 2010 is the officially anniversary of 50 years for independence for West African states.

The article talks about a very paradoxical relationship between the former colonies and the former “occupiers”

A lot of these countries still face economic difficulties. And France, for example, is Niger’s biggest economic partner. The problem is, if the former colonial powers are too involved in the former colonies politics, they are accused of neo-colonialism. But, if they are just let them be, they are said to be indifferent.

The Figaro reports that France, along with Ireland, the UK and Spain is gaining water. They are all getting an extra part of the Atlantic Ocean. These countries already own quite a big part of ocean territory where they hold the right to everything on the bottom of the ocean and in the water.

That’s not the case for this new territory. So it has sparked a spat between France and Spain, both of which have a large fishing industry.

And lastly, the sales are about to begin in France. Officially, the kick-off is not till 8 am Wednesday, but internet sites and even smaller stores have already let VIP customers take a peak, opening their doors on Saturday. They hope that these early bird specials will push people to buy more. Overall, they are expecting a 2 percent increase (159 Euros) per customer since 2008.
