Haiti survivor: "Saved by whisky, beer or soft drinks?"

The British newspaper The Guardian reports about Wismond Exantus, who was working in a grocery store when the earthquake hit. He took refuge under a desk when the building collapsed, and reportedly survived on whatever food he could find in the destroyed store.

According to The Guardian, he was “saved by a Scot and a bottle of Whisky”. Some media talk about soft drinks like Coca Cola, whilst others say he survived on beer.

The Herald Scotland and the Telegraph focus on one of the rescue workers who saved Wismond.

Carmen Michalska says she had to squeeze into a tiny hole, 20ft down, to reach him. Because she’s only 5ft5, she was the only rescuer who could squeeze down.

Meanwhile, The New York Times says health conditions in Haiti are deteriorating. Survivors treated for amputations or head injuries for example, need follow up care. Yet they have no home to go to after being hospitalized. The newspaper warns that these thousands of patients could get an infection if they don’t continue their treatment.

In other news, Bin Laden has reportedly reappeared in a video broadcast on Al Jazeera. His identity has not yet been confirmed by authorities, but Le Figaro says that it has lead to new conspiracy theories.

The Australian interviewed one of Bin Laden’s former assistant. According to the newspaper, he was in charge of finding Bin Laden’s fifth wife. He suggest that she still lives with him and that if authorities find her, they will find Bin Laden

And finally, the tabloid The News of the World claims that Brat Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly divorced.
