Corsican separatists claim responsibility for multiple 2009 attacks

The separatist Corsican National Liberation Front claimed responsibility on Sunday for two dozen attacks in 2009, including multiple strikes on police stations as well as holiday homes in the island's south.

AFP - Corsican separatists Sunday claimed two dozen attacks carried out last year on symbols of French rule on the Mediterranean island, two days ahead of a visit by President Nicolas Sarkozy.
   
The Corsican National Liberation Front (FLNC) claimed responsibility in a statement for six attacks on state institutions, including a rocket-launcher strike on a police station in January 2009 and gun attacks on two others in April.
   
The island's main separatist movement also claimed 18 attacks targeting holiday homes in southern Corsica.
   
None caused deaths or serious injury.
   
Corsica has endured three decades of low-level violence by separatists opposed to French rule and what they see as an invasion by holiday-home owners from the mainland.
   
The French president is expected on the island on Tuesday for a visit focused on sustainable development.
