FRANCE 24 television broadcasts were suspended in Ivory Coast on Monday for "unprofessional treatment of the news" and recent political events, the country’s communications regulatory board announced.
The National Council for Audiovisual Communication said on Monday that it had taken "a precautionary measure" in ending the broadcasts. Its president, Franck Anderson Kouassi, told AFP that the broadcasts would remain suspended "while waiting for a discussion by the council".
FRANCE 24’s Paris-based management confirmed on Monday that its channel had been shut down in Ivory Coast and said that it regrets the decision to suspend the channel’s broadcasts, calling it "unjustified".
“The management of our channel regrets the Ivorian authorities’ decision and hopes that, at its Wednesday meeting, the West African state’s broadcast regulator will review this decision, which to us seems unjustified,” the channel said in a statement.
