2007: Italy's best showing

Ahead of each Six Nations weekend, FRANCE 24 anchor and keen rugby player, Mark Owen, takes a look back at some of the key moments in the European game. Today: In 2007, Italy finished third. Their best tournament so far.

Italians are famous for football but since 2000 they are also known for rugby. In 2007, Italy's best campaign so far, the Squadra Azzurra finished third, beating Scotland 37-17 in Murrayfield  and later Wales 23-20.

In eleven campaigns, Italy were wooden spoonists four times and have yet to win the championship. But the numbers don't  mean a lot. After all, France had to wait until their 38th attempt...
