RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE IN NIGERIA

Religious violence has flared up again in central Nigeria. In the early hours of Sunday morning, Islamist pastoralists attacked 3 Christian villages near the city of Jos. Hundreds were killed by machetes or burnt alive in their homes. Many children were among the victims as this online video shows. Terrifying images. The Blogosphere is in shock.

This Twitter user, living in Jos, shares his outrage over the massacres. He is at the scene and commenting on the situation. He says in the streets of Jos, he can see hatred in everyone’s eyes.

This blogger believes the massacres were organized in retaliation to the atrocities committed against Muslims in January. In this previous wave of religious violence, dozens of bodies were found in wells.

, the Christian community condemns this climate of terror and declares itself a victim of genocide. This man has appealed to the government to restore calm in the region.

"They attack us during our Sunday prayer meetings. We’ve had enough. The federal government must do something quickly. “

And many web users are hoping that peace will quickly return to Jos. One of them has recorded a poem to spread this message: nothing justifies this bloodshed.

INDIA : CORRUPT COPS

This is the video that sparked the scandal. Five police officers from the Indian state of Goa have been suspended after this online document incriminated them. Apparently filmed in secret, we see an alleged drug trafficker boast about the preferential treatment he receives from the local drugs squad. This man, an Israeli national explains that a senior officer gave him confiscated drugs.

« I know a highly ranked officer; he can get a lot of drugs from the Mapusa Court, where they seized half a kilo of cocaine. This officer, he’s going to try and get into the incriminating evidence room to take the drugs and give them to me. »

The accused deny any involvement. The author of this video has not been identified and the images which date back to 2008 have not yet been authenticated, but the police are treating the allegations as a serious matter. In this video, broadcast on the web site of a local newspaper, the chief of police states that there will be an investigation into this video and also other statements from a second Israeli drug dealer who has recently been arrested.

Drugs are an endemic problem in Goa, the legendary hippy destination of the 1970s. And for several years now, local bloggers have been denouncing police collusion with organized crime in the region.
