AFP - Annualised German inflation edged lower to 0.6 percent in February from 0.8 percent the previous month, figures released on Wednesday by the national statistics office showed.

The result was higher than an initial estimate of 0.4 percent in Europe's biggest economy however, the Destatis office said.

While energy prices remained nearly unchanged, posting an increase of just 0.1 percent, mineral oil product prices, which include heating oil and motor fuels, jumped by 11.1 percent, Destatis said.

Gas prices fell by nearly 20 percent meanwhile, while food prices were 1.1 percent lower than in February 2009.

Core price increases have remained subdued even as volatile oil prices began to climb again, leaving economists to conclude that inflation should not pose a serious threat this year.
