Under fire: Starbucks let customers carry guns in its coffee shops
The USA already allows citizens to carry arms freely, but should that extend to letting people bring weapons into public areas? Coffee chain giant Starbucks has been criticised for permitting its customers to openly carry guns in its outlets - though pro-gun campaigners say they're well within their rights to do that.

why
Why do you people have the illusion that you are "safe" in a "gun-free environment"? Apparently you adopt the "out of sight, out of mind" philosophy. If none of the customers are allowed to carry guns then guess what: the only ones who will have guns are criminals. Businesses that ban their own customers from open carry are no more safe than any other. The difference is it will be a much more likely target of a violent criminal who knows there will be no resistance to whatever he wants to do. Law abiding citizens carrying weapons does one crucial thing: it levels the playing field, taking away the sweeping advantage from the criminals.
That was so totally
That was so totally lopsided...The Brady woman told outright lies and mentioned many falsehoods...All gun owners have to pass major back ground checks by the government...Most gun owners can out shoot the police and are far better trained...Gun owners know the laws better than the police and would never get caught within 1000 feet of a school...This woman talks through her ass and is a gun hater...her ignorance is obvious...and the man...in a war of wits, he came to her...unarmed...

Why I moved
Used to live in CA, moved to WA when I retired. Used my firearms FIVE times in Sacramento to protect myself and home. It's a sad, but telling, commentary where the places you can carry, you don't need to, but the places where you really do, you aren't allowed to carry.
Re: Guns and coffee
Yeah, the brady campaign makes me embarrassed to be an american too. Thank God I live in Virginia and my gun is loaded.

2nd Amendment
God damn I love America
Getting Educated 2
Every YEAR in America 4,563,000 people are injured -- 41,000 of them die. This level of lethal and traumatic violence is much higher than other developed countries. This American tragedy will continue as long as the car manufacturing industry is allowed to buy off American politicians with the profits of auto sales.

"I have a right, in all my education and experience with firearms, not to see a gun when I sip my overpriced coffee."
No you do not. In a free country, you do not have a right to be "free from fear" and you do not have a right to ban something because it may offend you. Civilization is sitting next to someone with a gun and ignoring it because it doesn't affect you in any rational way.
"HIDE IT".
Clearly you are not aware of how difficult it is for qualified law abiding citizens to get concealed carry licenses in CA. To get one you have to be politically connected, rich, or a movie star. So basically, county Sheriff's are deciding which citizens can protect themselves from danger, and which cannot, based on popularity. That doesn't sound like liberty to me.

Open Carry
What other rights should I give up? how 1st amendment rights and shut this down? No I didn't think so.
Report Correction
Overall a pretty good report, but one correction to the journalist and/or producer who wrote the voice over for the location video: "...an unloaded gun on his right, and two clips of ammunition on his left..." Those are not clips of ammunition, those are magazines of ammunition. It helps when the journalists get the details right.
Brady Campaign Misnomer
The Brady Campaign to "Stop Gun Violence" is a cowardly campaign that goes after law abiding citizens precisely because those very gun owners are NOT violent. If they had any integrity they would go after the actual primary causes of gun violence in America, Gangs. Their bigotry against lawful gun owners is disgusting.
Getting educated
Every YEAR in America 100,000 people are shot -- 30,000 of them die. This level of lethal and traumatic violence is much higher than other developed countries. This American tragedy will continue as long as the gun manufacturing industry is allowed to buy off American politicians with the profits of gun sales.

Guns and Coffee again
Let me expound my little blip as I left myself open to these cookie cutter responses. I am not against gun rights. I own a gun. My father owned many and taught me to use them since I was old enough to walk. What I am against is the anachronistic laws that allow the gun toting at a coffee shop. Specifically this is what I am against. I'll take my chances sipping on joe in peace in a gun free environment. I don't need some gun toting hero there "just in case" a madman decides to go on a rampage. I'm not afraid of guns i just think there is such a thing as appropriateness in a CIVILIZATION. The open carry at a coffee shop adds a level of unease in a CIVILIZATION. A society exists so we don't have to live in constant fear of the next guy blowing our heads off. Although it can happen the chances are few. Just let me drink my coffee without seeing your blue steel strapped to your belt. HIDE IT. I have a right, in all my education and experience with firearms, not to see a gun when I sip my overpriced coffee. Education about guns does not excuse inappropriateness with guns.
And as far as the fear of the state taking over a citizens rights-I get that and how this is connected to the right to arms. But the taking over our lives is much more subtle than this. Tote your guns all you want as your neighbor dies in poverty from a disease she can't afford to cure. That's the trampling of right to happiness and liberty.
Bravo Starbucks
Why does the Brady Campaign seem to think that open carry is more dangerous than concealed carry? Their logic fails.
They also fail to note that the record shows police are more than twice as likely to make a mistake and injure an innocent person than private citizens, yet they're okay with police carrying. Once again their logic fails.

Hoplophobia
Prejudice is caused by ignorance. Education cures both. Be a responsible member of society and educate yourself.

Embarrassed?
If freedom is a reason to be embarrassed, perhaps you should pick another country. We're the freest country in the world and don't want to lose our right of effective self-defense so that some panty-wetting gun hater can "feel safe."
Everyone keeps saying this is dangerous, but there's thousands of peaceably armed citizens across the USA openly carrying their firearms every day, and MILLIONS carrying concealed. There hasn't been any cases of open carriers shooting innocent people, and a very, very few cases of concealed carriers doing so - just a little over 100 cases in the last few years, out of millions!
Don't be ashamed, move to
Don't be ashamed, move to some place that you fit in and aren't fortunate enough to have the right to protect yourself. The facts should be the basis for your opinions. Don't make the facts try to fit what you want them to say. You too can handle the responsibility, don't let it scare you. No sense in being a hoplophobe.
Guns and coffee
This is just another reason I am embarrassed to be an American.
