Relations between the US and Israel have been unusually tense since Israels announcement on 9 March that it would go ahead with the construction of 1600 new housing units in East Jerusalem during the visit of Joe Biden in Israel. It has provoked one of the most serious dips in the US-Israeli relationship and Mr Netanyahu has arrived in the US seeking to limit the damage.
