Carbon tax: up in smoke

Has French president Nicolas Sarkozy, who once promised to save the human race with a tax on carbon, changed his mind? On Tuesday, his Prime Minister, François Fillon, announced that France wasn't prepared to sink the competitiveness of French businesses by introducing a tax that was not paid by their EU counterparts. Reactions are vehement from the world of environmentalists.
