French Presidency: A break with the past?

It was a week of handovers. On Tuesday, France's first Socialist president in 17 years made his way up the red carpet and into the history books, becoming only the second Socialist since 1958 to take up residence at the Élysée palace.

François Hollande: A 'normal' president?

François Hollande is France's new leader; only the second Socialist president since 1958. But while Hollande has won the mother of all French political battles, he has not won the war. Both the Socialists and Conservatives are gearing up for crucial parliamentary elections in June. They will shape the Hollande presidency by deciding whether he will have a majority to implement his policies or not.

Presidential Election: The final countdown

It's time for the French to make up their minds, although the latest opinion polls show little change, with François Hollande still the favourite.

@ Anonyme Oh please spare us

@ Anonyme Oh please spare us your irrelevant blabbering. It's very clear that you live in Canada because you have no idea about the cultural and demographic decline of the French people. But then again of course you wouldn't you're from Canada which has about as much cultural and ethnic unity as Antarctica has people. And to call the US "right wing" please tell me you're joking. This is the party that has elected Obama who is extremely right wing and the Occupy protests which are just a perfect example of a far right movement.

This is how Hitler started

This is horrible.
This is how Hitler got started.
Please, Europe..PLEASE don't become like America.
I am here in Canada, and we look to Europe for relief and as the beautiful example for the OPPOSITE of the disgusting extremely right-wing neighbours we have (the USA)...
Canada is very left-wing, and you guys in Europe have always been our role models. Social democracy and democratic socialism make you and Canada the most humanitarian and fair and equality-based examples...don't throw it away by electing modern-day Hitlers. It's bad enough our neighbours to the south, the U.S, are SO right-wing and they're SO close to us geographically.... please don't go and become even WORSE than the U.S.A, because these far-right parties are even FURTHER right than the US..they are modern-day Nazis
