Last night, U.S. President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle welcomed President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, to a much talked-about private dinner at the White House. The extended honour was seen as a fence-mending exercise after reports of bad chemistry between the two world leaders. And it seems to have worked, with both men keen to dispel the impression of friction during a joint press conference.
