Beer-drinking Muslim model escapes caning
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, a Malaysian model who faced caning for drinking a beer, has had her sentence reduced to community service. The model had originally been sentenced to six lashes in a case that grabbed headlines around the world.

AFP - A Malaysian Muslim model who faced a caning for drinking beer in a case that caused outrage among rights groups, has had her sentence reduced to community service, her father said Thursday.
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, 33, was sentenced last year under Islamic law to six lashes and a fine by a religious court in the moderate Muslim-majority country in a case that grabbed headlines around the world.
Kartika's father Shukarno Mutalib said however that the ruler of the central state of Pahang, where Kartika was caught drinking, had now decided to commute the sentence, according to a letter received by the family this week.
"The sultan has decided that the caning sentence will be substituted with a three-week community service at a children's home in Pahang from April 2," Shukarno told AFP. The sultan is the head of religion in each state.

Most of the World is Not brought up like that! If women want to drink a beer there's Nothing wrong with that at all. Jesus himself turned water into wine at a wedding, for men and women alike. If women can't drink is the men allowed to drink it?
Maybe Muslims worship a God that does not allow the people to drink beer. Well, if thats the case, then Not one person on this earth should drink it, but on the other hand, quite a lot of women have the freedom to choose if they want to drink it, or not or never to drink it. Only GOD can tell me in the Bible if I can drink it and so far I haven't read it, so therefore I will drink it if I want to.
