Afghanistan's peace jirga: a charade?

Afghan President Hamid Karzai is holding a "peace jirga" in Kabul, inviting over 1,500 tribal leaders to discuss ways of ending nearly 9 years of deadly conflict in Afghanistan. The West says the conference is a crucial first step on the road to peace and a chance to set out terms for negotiations with the Taliban. But proceedings got off to a shaky start on Wednesday as the venue was targeted by a Taliban suicide squad...
