If further evidence were needed of Turkey's increasingly assertive foreign policy, it is on show again this week in Istanbul, where it is playing host to a major summit of regional leaders, among them Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Afghan leader Hamid Karzai.
