EU presidency: crisis-hit Belgium takes the helm
The European Union needs decisive leadership to lift it out of an economic crisis. Yet today a country that's itself in crisis takes over the rotating presidency of the EU for six months. Belgium is trying to form a coalition government after a parliamentary election further widened the rift between the Dutch-speaking north and the Francophone south. Coalition talks could drag on until Belgium is half-way through its turn at the EU's helm.
