Barack Obama promised to make immigration reform a priority in his first year as US president. But only now has he delivered his first major speech on the issue. He's called on Congress to pass a bill giving the country's eleven million illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship. But reform is highly contentious, as Obama acknowledged at the American University in Washington yesterday.
