- French politics - L'Oreal heiress scandal - Nicolas Sarkozy - UMP

French politics and its perks (part 2)

France is embroiled in its hottest political storm since the 2007 election of Nicolas Sarkozy as president. Two junior ministers have resigned over undue perks paid for by taxpayers and a much more senior cabinet minister is under fire for an alleged conflict of interest between his former job as budget minister, his job as treasurer of the ruling UMP party, and the hiring of his wife in 2007 by a major party contributor, the heiress of the L'Oréal fortune.

Is the storm going to pass? Are the French big offenders when it comes to perks? With the controversy now touching the raw nerve that is party financing, how do you cut out abuse in the system?

A debate with François Picard and guests:

Raquel GARRIDO, National Secretary of the Parti de Gauche (left-wing party)
Mickaël CAMILLERI, National delegate of the UMP’s Youth Movement
Bruno JEANBART, Director of polling for Opinionway
