A year ago, the world's automobile industry was in a very sorry shape indeed. There was wave after wave of lay-offs and plant closures all thanks to the global financial crisis. But one year on, the picture is looking surprisingly different, with European car makers reporting a more than healthy turnaround for the first six months of the year.
