Israel-Lebanon: the endless standoff (part 2)

After Tuesday’s deadliest clashes between Israel and Lebanon since the 2006 war, the France 24 Debate asks why do these two neighbours never seem remotely interested in patching things up. Part of the answer may lie with the movement that controls southern Lebanon, Hezbollah, which is in the firing line of an upcoming UN report on the assassination of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.

A debate with François Picard and guests:

Elie MASBOUNGI, Paris Correspondent for l’Orient Le Jour (Lebanese daily)
Lee SMITH, Visiting Fellow for the Hudson Institute and Middle East specialist (via satellite from Washington, D.C.)
Giora EILAND, Senior Research Fellow at the INSS (Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv), Retired Army Major General and Former Head of the Israeli National Security Council (by phone from Tel Aviv, Israel)
Lucy FIELDER, France 24 Correspondent (by phone from Beirut, Lebanon)

Programme prepared by Yi Song and Perrine Desplats
