California victory for same-sex marriage

In today’s international papers: Lebanese and Israeli editorials slam their respective armies for Tuesday’s violence on the border; the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle welcome the overturning of the same-sex marriage ban in California and Obama spends his 49th birthday without his family! THURSDAY, 5th AUGUST 2010

 

Articles in today’s international press review:
 
The editorials this morning in  L’Orient le Jour (Lebanese French-language daily) and Ha’aretz (left-leaning Israeli daily) are both highly critical of their respective countries’ actions in last Tuesday’s shoot out on the Israel-Lebanon border.
 
California’s Supreme Court has overturned Proposition 8, an amendement to the state’s constitution which banned same-sex marriage. The Los Angeles Times and the San Francisco Chronicle both welcome the decision in their editorials.
