Over a dozen killed in prison clashes

At least 14 prisoners at a facility in Matamoros, northeast Mexico died on Friday after violence broke out between rival gangs, prison officials reported.

AFP - At least 14 inmates died Friday in a clash between rival groups in a prison in Matamoros, in northeast Mexico, officials said.
  
Jose Ives Soberon, secretary of public security in the state of Tamaulipas told AFP that inmates were beaten and attacked with sharp instruments in a clash early in the day, before troops were sent in to restore order.
  
"As of now the situation is under control and an investigation is underway," he said.
